American idiocy: Carmen Kontur-Gronquist

by Miki Saxon

You’ve probably already read this or seen the various rants around the blogsphere, but in a nutshell here’s what happened.
carmen_kontur-gronquist.jpg

  • Kontur-Gronquist is the unpaid mayor of a tiny town of 600.
  • She’s also a single mom, buff and attractive.
  • Long before she was elected a female friend took some photos of her in black underwear on the local fire truck.
  • With her permission a relative made her a MySpace page to jumpstart her social life.
  • Then all Hell broke loose.
  • She’s been asked to resign and has refused.

The photos show no more than if she had on a bikini—actually less.

The photos date back to August 2004, well before she ever imagined becoming mayor. Kontur-Gronquist says they were taken after a day at the beach with a friend who was a volunteer firefighter…she had been considering entering a “contest about fitness and women” for Sports Illustrated magazine…”Did I send them in? No. I didn’t think they were good enough!”

If Kontur-Gronquist had been wearing shorts and a halter this would have been a non-event, but it was <gasp> underwear.

What I think shows in the post title, but what I’d really like to know is what do you think?

Your comments—priceless

I think with all that is going on in the world, the town really over-reacted to this whole situation. Major cities have re-elected repeat crack offenders as mayor. New Orleans re-elected a guy that turned and ran when Katrina came in leaving his people to rot. I don’t know what the big deal is.
There must be a lot of bored people in her town.
She looks very good. I hope all the publicity helps her find a nice guy.

  2. Miki Saxon Says:

Robert, I think small-minded is probably more accurate than bored. You don’t understand because obviously you have a brain that isn’t narrow, judgmental or bigoted.

  3. Matt Says:

We just went back in time 40 years. Well she put them on the map! A town of total ignorance and one hot ex-mayor… Beauty and Brains will always prevail. She will be the winner in the end…..

  4. Miki Saxon Says:

More like fifty plus years, Matt. Ignorance and intolerance. I just wish it was only her town and not a good portion of the country!

  5. Benny Says:

I consider that those pictures are not important, she has a great body and if she decided to show it I think that it doesn’t make less important the job that she can do as major.

  6. John Says:

I have also read that there was a flap with the local golf course. The Mayor apparently laid off a couple of employees to save money over the winter when the course was not used much in order to deal with a budget shortfall. I wonder if local golfers with influence used the pictures as a way of getting their way with the golf course?

  7. Miki Saxon Says:

Benny, You’re absolutely right. Skill and talent are what count, but we live in a country where appearances are more important and you can see the results everywhere.

  8. Miki Saxon Says:

A likely scenario, John, but can you imagine the reaction if she’d raised taxes to pay for the shortfall?

  9. Ed Says:

    How do I contact her?

  10. Miki Saxon Says:

I don’t know, Ed. Try information:)
