Interview with Reed Tayler, Creator of MethodYoga.com

Key Takeaways

  • Attended conference to understand intersection among digital health, healthcare and the technology
  • Impressed by Envisagenics, Kenzen and Helix
  • Wearable health is the future
  • He’s looking for partnerships to bring MethodYoga.com to the masses

Who are we talking to?
I’m Reed Taylor, creator of Method Yoga Health.

Why did you attend the conference?
I attended the conference because I am now going into the healthcare space and I wanted to get some information on this intersection between digital health, healthcare and the technology that is really on the leading edge and how I can utilize it in what I’m doing to make greater impact as well as the reach. Because with a digital platform, the scale is incredible.

Talk to us about what were the highlights of the conference for you, what inspired you?
I was blown away at what people are doing with DNA, how you can modify fitness, the food. Helix.

Finding all of these common threads, putting research in it, putting it through these computers and finding the right ways for treatment. It’s fascinating the level, speed, technology and skill that these things can be done with.

My personal favorite was the Kenzen, because this company is doing this wearable technology and these patches and understanding the how humans perform under intense conditions.

They’re monitoring employees at Fortune 50 companies that are at high risk. The companies can monitor important vital signs, not just heart rate, but hydration, movement, etc. And it was fascinating to see real time dashboard with four or five different metrics being charted in real time.

I think the technology obviously had the biggest crossover with what Method Yoga Health is all about.  I’m definitely going to go meet with them, see if there is a possible collaboration potential.

I just launched an app on the iPhone platform that has nine signature training systems; I’ve created more than 20 over the last two decades of training.

Tell us about your app on the iTunes store and also about your company, Method Yoga, and where you are in the process and what are next steps.
Well, basically Method Yoga is this idea that using movement to optimize the person and to activate its own inherent healing tendencies.

I’ve been live in the Apple and Android and Roku for about a year. The four modern methods of transformation are highlighted in this app.

I started doing yoga in Santa Cruz when I was learning to surf and realized that my body was just completely wrecked from high-impact training and collision sports. I stared doing yoga every day and that evolved into Rocket power yoga, a very exciting Vinyasa yoga training system.

My app takes a developmental approach, so the results are personal training at a fraction of the price. There are five training levels, so users can control the intensity and time and progress in a safe and structured way, unlike most of apps.

I hear this all the time, “I’ve never felt better.” People engage in an intensive way and you see their life change in every aspect.

For me it’s a healthcare thing. It healed me of chronic pain at 22 years old. I couldn’t stand being in my body. I high jumped six foot, three. I was a 110 high hurdler. I was playing sports continuously with my twin brother from the age of ten until the end of my college career at 22.

I thought I was an athlete. I thought I had this great fitness ability, but really I had an imbalance of fitness and chronic pain/immobility. I was basically miserable in my body and needed a way to heal it. And that’s really what Method Yoga offers at its most basic level, is a way for the body to activate its natural healing responses.

What’s next?
We are looking for partners in the digital health space, new developments in wearable technology.

We’re currently researching and setting up meetings with them. Doing test groups with people who are interested in going through the training. If you’re looking to get in shape, reach out, Reed@methodyoga.com. Get on the app; there’s a 30-day free trial.

Method Yoga is a complete, holistic training system that really unifies the main variables that you need to optimize your fitness, your health and develop the spiritual connection.

I hear stories every day. “I use this every … every day I went in to use the trial and I’m amazed at what happened in just four weeks of training.” I get messages like that a lot from people all over the world.

That’s exciting.
