Ah, the good old Weekly World News. Up there with the Onion as the internet’s only reliable source of news reporting.
Needless to say, the story’s a hoax:

Hi Alan, Thanks for the correct attribution. I posted it as satire and without thinking gave it real attribution (now fixed). You are the second person who gave me the info.
Mark said “Passing on urban legends as news really doesn’t lend credibility to you site.

The link sent his post to moderation and I clicked the wrong button and deleted it. I did write and ask him to re-post it, but haven’t heard back.
It may have been a hoax, but it’s still an outstanding example of a really bad culture.
Thanks for stopping by and correcting the misinfo.

True or not, it’s a great story. I love being Irish!

Hi Batty, welcome to Leadership Turn. I’m glad you like the story, it’s one of my favorite cultural teaching tools—nobody misunderstands it.

You’re all missing the point…
February 3rd, 2009 at 12:42 pm
Hi John, thanks for stopping by. What point are we missing?
February 3rd, 2009 at 5:07 pm
Hey! That was my Uncle.
February 3rd, 2009 at 6:09 pm
I can see how this went down.
“Mmmm hmmmm….looks good. OK next definition…..heart attack. Grahhhhhh! I’m dead!
February 3rd, 2009 at 9:03 pm
Hi Rob, My condolences. I hope you aren’t working for the same company!
February 3rd, 2009 at 9:06 pm
Hmmm, last I heard you couldn’t actually pronounce yourself dead, someone living has to do it. But maybe it’s different when you’re a Lord?
February 3rd, 2009 at 9:43 pm
wow… this guy defines the expression, “working yourself to death.” may he r.i.p.
February 3rd, 2009 at 9:50 pm
Hi Sony, he sure does, and for such a caring management, too.

Everything’s a hoax. Especially hoaxes. Just ask your grandma. Oh wait, she’s a hoax. It’s like people “debunking” Houdini… who cares if he did magic or not? Is that what really counted? Obviously not.
February 4th, 2009 at 12:22 pm
It’s obviously fake, but it’s very clever. There is a pretty deep meaning to it. I’ve read it 11 times now and I catch a new symbol each read!
February 4th, 2009 at 2:02 pm
Hey IB, I resemble that comment, I’m real…at least I think I am…unless… Oh, good grief, what happened to my reflection? It was there this morning…unless it was a figment, which is sometimes a hoax…which means…
February 4th, 2009 at 2:05 pm
DUDe, fake, but clever—sounds like those guys on Wall Street.
But seriously, what symbols are you finding? I’m really curious (unless your comment is a hoax…)
February 6th, 2009 at 5:49 pm
Is it just me or is getting solipsistic in here? especially with the last two comments
February 6th, 2009 at 6:29 pm
Hi Richard, mine or theirs? If mine, I apologize, didn’t mean to turn this into any kind of a meme.
Thanks for visiting and I hope you come back!

I think this article really has a lot of important messages about our culture. Despite being made up, the lessons are still there. Read it and learn, people.
March 13th, 2009 at 2:59 pm
Hi Xaoh, I agree. Best lesson is to not act like the bosses and co-workers in the article!
