Of life lessons, managers and time
by Miki SaxonAnyone who’s been around even one block knows that the road to success is paved with people who know more and are smarter than you. But knowing isn’t accepting.
Dan McCarthy did a great post called Captain Kirk and Leadership that spells this out. It’s too good to paraphrase, so click on over and read it.
He also pointed me to a video that I’m posting here for you. Take the time to watch, it could change your life.
How do you manage your time and your people?

Miki – I like the leadership description. But as alluded to in comments on McCarthy’s page, what happens when you get someone who expects you, as a leader, to know more about everything than they do?

Luke, my apologies for not responding sooner (stupid technology:)
A very smart engineering vp once told me that he he didn’t need to know tech like his people, but he needed to know enough not to get conned. He said that the knowing was about 35% tech knowledge and 65% people knowledge, i.e., knowing each of his people well enough to know whose presentations to question more closely, etc.
