Think about the comic that was protested. Do you really think the artist consciously drew a connection between a monkey and an African American? Do you think he sat down and said "I am going to portray our black president as a monkey." No... you would have to be insane to believe this. In fact, the only people drawing connections between this and some sort of racist connotation are people who go out of their way to FIND and FABRICATE them. Racism is still an issue between ALL races. However, efforts are misguided and channeled into some cartoon that wasn't even intended to send the same message across that "activists" like Sharpton are spoon feeding people. It's for this reason that I believe Sharpton preaches intolerance more than tolerance. I do appreciate your comment, though. It's not necessarily an idea to agree with, but instead one to live with. I'm sharing it with a cross-section of generations in my address book. I'm very curious to see what others think, or if any position Mr. Sharpton or activists from his generation may now speak out about is automatically dismissed or diminished in the minds of many people.
