Thanks, Byron. I'm not quite sure which part of this post drove the everyone-is-a-leader comment, but there is a basic problem with this point of view. Basic organizational structure requires that there be leaders and followers. Obviously, everyone cannot be a leader at the same time. Although everyone may have the capability of becoming a leader in at least a limited venue, it is not possible to have every person in a team leading that team.

What I think you are trying to say with this is that "leadership" equals catching the vision, embracing the vision, helping further the vision by helping others to catch the vision, and doing your part to fulfill it. That's not really leadership; that's being part of the team, instead of just a body at the table.

If you mean that everyone on the team can be a vision creator and vision caster within that team, then there is only chaos at the end of that. Any team that allows conflicting visions to be cast and addressed is doomed before it even starts working.

Have misunderstood your intent with your comment?

BLOG = BEW = LEADER / TEAM = 11-8-08

Each member of any team is “the LEADER.” Being “leader” is the responsibility of each person on the team, not just the convener, president, chairperson, moderator, etc.
It is the responsibility of each member to contribute to the issue being considered and to stand for the leadership of every member to ensure that each member is being leader. All members must call forth any other member who is not taking the responsibility of “being leader” 100% of the time.
To be truly a “team,” each member actively contributes to all matters being considered which are in the purview of the team and has freedom and power to do so. Leadership exists only in the context of having the freedom and power to be leader in expressing one’s contribution to the issues at hand, no matter what others make think or feel.
Go to www.entreprenuersnow.org to learn about an after-school program which teaches juniors and seniors in high school who learn how to be leaders who have power and freedom in their lives inside of a vision for their lives.
